Caring for your Mohair

Mohair is a natural, luxurious fibre and unlike wool, Mohair has no scales. A vigorous shake will dislodge most dirt particles.

Soak in cool tepid water using mild detergent recommended for washing wool. Hot water will cause shrinkage. Gently agitate by hand to dislodge any dirt particles. Do not agitate unduly as this may also cause shrinkage.

Rinse in clean water. I would recommend placing between two towels to remove excess moisture. Do not tumble dry. Agitation and heat will shrink your mohair blanket.

Lay flat to dry. Mohair dries quite quickly.

When dry, a brisk shake or brush with a hair brush similar to the one shown in the images above will restore the pile. Brush with strokes towards the Masterweave Label. It is important to brush the same way as the teasels originally lifted the pile.

Your Mohair blanket can also be dry cleaned by a reputable dry cleaner. Just make sure they will not use a tumble wash or dry method of cleaning.
